illness has overtaken our house

May 26th 2012

A week ago today, I was feeling pretty dog-gone ill.
Then Sunday, Eithan had a fever.
Then ever since those two days, Eithan and I have been like lumps on the couch.
He would feel a little bit better and get active, and then crash an hour or two later.
I would feel a little bit better and try to clean the house, and then crash an hour or two later.

Today is the first day (so far) that I've felt like myself.
But Eithan is still sick.
He had another fever last night/this morning.
He's still in bed.
And he doesn't want to do anything but sit on the couch and watch TV.

I feel so bad for him!
And there's not really anything we can do except give him Ibuprofen to help with pain.
To top this all off, we're pretty sure he had Hand, Foot and Mouth disease during the week.
If you haven't heard of it, be grateful.
It is not anything pleasant at all.

So, he's been looking like this.

We both have felt like just crawling under the covers and staying there.
{He actually is in there, I found him like this during nap time.}

And I am supposed to be running today!
It didn't happen.
I feel so lame, but as the post says.. illness has overtaken our house.

No worries, though.
We'll make it through this, and I signed up for another run 2 weeks from now.
Now let's hope that a week break from any sort of physical exertion won't have completely ruined all that 8 weeks of training that I just did!

5K Training

May 17th 2012

I finally pulled these babies out of the basket and started using them.

Collin and I made a goal to exercise this year... and then 3 months passed with no improvement.

So, when some of my friends did a 15K and did well... I started thinking maybe it's time to try something new and see how it goes??

Now don't get me wrong, I had no visions of grandeur here.
I have never been a runner...
I'll admit that I lied on my mile every time during high school.
I should have been the one running with the 'big kid' that takes 10 minutes longer than everyone else.
But, alas, I didn't. Thus, the confession above.

Anywho.

8 weeks ago I started training with a specific goal in mind.
3.13 miles in 30 minutes.
(my friends tell me that's about average and a good time)

I am getting closer to that goal everyday.. and next saturday is the the 5K!

I am loving having a goal to look forward to!
It is motivating, it is exciting, it will be fun to be able to do it, and then move up to a 10K.

All in all, I'm really enjoying training for this.
I'm hoping with some more time I'll see the changes in my body that I want,
but for now I just feel better.. and that's a great start!

P.S. Today I did 3 miles in 31 minutes and 6 seconds.
So you see.. I really am getting close to being able to achieve my goal.
Wish me luck!

Bates and Schmidt Shower

May 5th 2012

Today Brittany and I celebrated the upcoming babies of our friends Diane and Kim.
Together we created an absolutely beautiful baby shower.
{at least I think so}

Everything was just how we imagined it
{maybe even a little bit better}

What makes this all wonderful are the little 'touches':
We have 8oz plastic bottles with blue striped straws
Little chalkboards that label all the food
And clear Chinet plates and silverware

One of the games we played was 'baby word' pictionary.
I thought it was absolutely hilarious.
Ashley Iverson on the left was drawing a Boppy,
and Meghan Lang on the right was drawing a bottle,
but that's as far as she was able to draw before someone guessed what it was!

 the other game we played was who could drink the most from a baby bottle in a certain amount of time
we gave them 5 oz and then allowed them 90 seconds to drink as much as they could
let's just say it was harder than they thought it would be...
Diane Schmidt, Karley Roylance and Ashley Iverson were 3 of our willing participants

{everything was adorable!}

Diane Schmidt with some of her gifts.
She was way excited about a block set that Kim gave her.
It was cute.

And finally, Karley's little girl made the rounds..
And I just thought this was a cute picture of Brittany with her.

All in all, it was a success!
Good Food. Good People. Great Games. Wonderful Gifts!
What could be better?
